Stories worth bookmarking

Every reader has a reason to turn the page.
We asked readers what reading means to them, what keeps them reaching for another book, and how it feels to look back at the stories they’ve finished.

There’s more to discover.

Read what other readers have to say about the books, habits and experiences that keep them turning the page.

I love reading as I likewise love stories, storytelling, and reading in its own form. Fully Booked and NBS are go-tos for convenience, but I like going to Biblio as well for second hand books. Booksale in Cubao also has some pretty nice options.

What usually gets me to start reading if the synopsis is interesting then I’m more likely to read the book. If not from the synopsis itself then usually recommendations from my other friends who are also avid readers.

I’m actually not the type to annotate, I don’t like marking my books. I feel like annotating is something I do when I’m doing schoolwork, so if I feel like I’m working on something adjacent to an academic requirement, it would take the pleasure out of reading.

Reading is an escape of reality to me, enjoying someone else’s story that is being told. I usually get my books at Fully Booked and it’s hard to name a specific branch since I often just visit any branch I see, but all the books I’m interested in reading can be found in different branches of fully booked. I also really enjoy looking around all the different books there and seeing what I might be interested in. I also get mine at National Book Store Q. Ave Branch since it’s near my house and very accessible to me, especially when going home from my commute, so I tend to go there and see their books. also it’s a more affordable option compared to fully booked.

There is a specific instance for reading. Sometimes it really just depends. It’ll just randomly pop up in my head and get the motivation to read it or maybe I get very interested in a book’s synopsis.

I feel quite surprised that I managed to read all of the books I finished, since although I enjoy reading I don’t necessarily read a lot or extremely often.

I think annotating or marking your books makes it extremely personal since it has a touch of “you,” but I personally don’t practice it since I get scared of accidentally marking the wrong spots in my book.

Reading helps me calm down for a little. Serves as my little escape from my thoughts. I get my books at Fully Booked! I like it because some books I can read and the catalogue feels very thought of as well as its layout.

What gets me reading is when I have the time or if I get too overwhelmed.

When I see the pile of books I finished reading, I feel fulfilled or it feels good because I’ve had time to myself!

I don’t really annotate my books because I’m scared that some people may borrow it and see some of my thoughts on it.

Reading takes me into another world where I can live somebody else’s life and “experience” things I otherwise wouldn’t. I get my books at Fully Booked or National bookstore and run jumpstarts my brain out of autopilot from me thinking perceptively and analyzing the book selections they offer.

I usually pick up a book to get a healthier alternative to brain-numbing doomscrolling or just really want to continue a story I’m invested in.

I gain a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction knowing that I put my time into something productive and visually seeing my progress as a reader.

I annotate my books! Because I get to be reminded of the feelings I felt reading a certain part of the story and I get to express my own quips and opinions on the writing and turn these into something tangible instead of letting this stay as stored mental energy.

I would say reading is a required constant in my life; I read so much to the point that not reading feels irrational, and I need it to function. I usually read for pleasure and it gives me immense joy when I finish a book, but most of the books I read are for my classes in college.

What usually gets me to pick-up a book are Interesting titles and covers (sorry I do pick up a book by its cover if I’m going into the bookstore without a specific book in mind). Otherwise, I usually go to bookstores with specific books I want to purchase.

Whenever I see the books I finished reading, I feel accomplished and have the desire to read more books.

I don’t like annotating or marking my books. I write my thoughts down in a separate notebook.

Reading is honestly nothing more than a pass time to me. I mostly read comics and manga, though I do have some “actual” books. Books help me do something that isn’t doom scrolling when outside or when I’m not just sitting down somewhere.

I usually go to bigger brand places like Fully Booked or Filbars due to what kind of books i usually read, Though my favorites are MOA/Glorietta ones since they’re in the same mall. The stores themselves aren’t very important to me though. But if I did have to pick one the branch that used to be at ATC used to always be a go to, I’ve made a lot of memories with people there.

If we’re talking about new books usually what brings me in is an interesting title, interesting art, or an interesting synopsis. But most of the time when I pick up a book it’s just to pass time without using my phone. I’ve been trying to lower my phone screen time but sometimes i read books on my phone so yeah.

There’s no particular feeling from me when I finish books. Putting finished books on the shelf gives me the same feeling of completing model kits or buying collectible toys. Once you finish reading/building/using it it goes on the shelf for awhile until I either take an interest in the series again or just wanna pass time by reading them again.

your heart beats louder; each flip matches its rhythm

time has passed too soon

before you even know it

you’ve gone through so much
